Plum line
'How does the magazine you have studied construct and reflect it's intented audience?'
Plum line is bright and attractive this makes is eye catching, it uses a variety of of colour. The title uses the same colours as plumstead manor so it's linking both the magazine and school together. In the right hand corner they have an image of the school anadvertisement of how the school is going to look after the referbishment . The front cover uses images as evidence to back up what they are saying, they include a section for every year from year 7-11, the advantage to this is that there is a variety of different information for different people as their are many different social groups at school. They target different age ranges ranging from year 7 to 1. The magazine includes topics such as performing arts, GCSe drama, music, politics, sports and literature to attract all years from year 7 to 11 so they can read the section that they find intresting and most appealing to them personally. The magazine is formal but not too formal as it's aimed at people aged 11-16 years and the audience is younger and tend to find slang/informal language more appealing as this is what they are used to. The text is formal and straight forward, the magazine is simple, not too complex as it's only aimed at children and it's crusial to not make the magazine to difficult for some readers such as the year seven's. The main purpose of this magazine is to inform the audience of activities taking palce through out the school, they also inform sudents about achievments. The magazine effectively constructs it's intended audience through the colour, font and images used.

This is my first draft of my Hip-Hop magazine, I chose the name 'BEAT' for my title as In hip-hop and RnB music, the term 'beat' commonly refers to the entire instrumental and non-vocal layer of the song and every type of music has a beat so i thought this name was well suited for this particular magazine. The colour scheme is black and white as through reserach most Hip-Hop magazine consisted of the colour scheme used on my Hip-Hop magazine. These colours are not used to target a specific target audience its meant to appeal to both the male and female readers.
The image is a close up as i wanted to create an image which was intimidating and that showed power and i think i achieved this as the artist in the picture is looking down at the camera showing he is superior than the readers. The artist in the picture is wearing a watch and chain this shows the readers he is successful as he is able to afford all the 'bling' he is wearing. This image is confirming stereotypes as most Hip-Hop artists are black confident and wealthy. As this is my draft cover, when improving i will change the colour of the font size and colour as it hard to read as its on a dark background i may change it to red or yellow so it stands out and be easier to read. Additionally i will need to make the artists name bigger and bolder to draw attention to it, i will also change the layout of the date as it looks unprofessional.

Rock sound -rock double page spread This double page spread if from the rock sound magazine and is a rock magazine. This double page only consists of one large image which is the rock band PARAMORE, the lead singer of the band is Haley Williams and thats why she stands out from the rest of her band as she is in colour, the colour highlights her importancs in the group and also as she is the only female singer in the band and gets more attention overall. The name of the band is written in colour across the page and is tilted this makes it more appealing as its unusal and you don't see it in magazine oftenly. The image and and title confirm the stereotypes against rock people as the title looks disconcerted and the image is taken from a low angle making the band look superior and intimidating and in control. There is little writing used in this double page spread as the main intrest is the image in the background, The background is the black and white and this contrast well with the colour of the text as its white and easy to read. There is a discription of the image on the top right hand corner to lure the readers into reading the article.
Vibe- R&B Double page spread This a double page spread from Vibe magazine this is an R&B magazine. I chose this double page spread as i like the colour scheme used on it, The main colours which are used are red, bule and pink the use of these colours are very good as they are bright and attractive and contrast well with each other and the use of red shows power. The main image is in colour and is bigger than the others and is a little of center but it still shows the readers she is the main topic of conversation and the use of image being in colour makes it stand out from everything else on the page. The black and white images used in the background are used to dominanace the main image. The blue is used to highlight the artists name to make it easier for the readers to know who she is. The text on the double page spread is small and simple and is placed around the image to highlight the importance of the image. The article features some of the conventional styles for magazines, such as columns arranged in 3 on each page and bold and big writing to show the start of an article. Quotes from the article are used at the bottom right hand of the main image to tempt readers to read the whole article. This double page can intrest readers who are in both into music and fashion as the main image is a music and style icon for many readers.
XXL - Hip-Hop double page spread This is a double page spread from XXL magazine , this is a Hip-Hop magazine. The core attraction on this magazine is the imgae. The double page spread consists of one image using a modern artist to attract the 'modern' generation as they are very familiar with his work.
This magazine follows the conventional c shape layout this is when the image is placed on the right side of the double page and a anchor present to let the reader know that the article is finished. This magazine is targeted at people who can afford the magazine mainly people who have a job. There is use of colloquial language in the main heading of the double page spread ' Over here husltlin' this is american slang. In the article the artists also used terms such as 'okay, its cool' this is informal language although it makes the artist more relatable to the readers as this term is a common phrase which is used in everyday life. The mode of address of this double page is unformal as the interviewer is more on a friend level rather than being an interviewer. The plain white background creates a simplistic feel and the white background merges in with the models clothing the use of white can be used to attract the older audience. The article has used heavy san serif for the title of the article this may be done in order to catch the readers eye as its big and bold, a drop cap is used at the start of the article this a traditional method used in articles used to grab the readers attention as it looks odd. The is no use of props used in the image just the artist as he is the main topic of conversation and the mask on his face also adds an intrest in the article as it makes the image look mysterious and unique although his eyes are still on display this creates a connection between the readers as his gazing straight into the camera. The use of a solid colour scheme makes the article look simple and the black text is easy to read due to the white background.

Rock contents page
I have chosen a contents page from the magazine called 'Rock Sound' which is a rock magazine. The main colours used on this contents page are red, black. The contents page is split into red and white and in contrast to the background they have used red font on the white background and white on the red this makes it stand out and makes it look attractive. Half the contents page consists of images of rock groups, the images are a strerotypical view as the pictures are of men only. The magazine can be appealing for both sexes as men would want to read this magazine as it consists of actual rock music artist and females can find it appealing as it includes the oppsite sex and would want to look at the men for sexual desire. The font on the contents page very retro and stylish, the column on the left includes the features, exposure, regulars and reviews they are all organised into different categories to make it easier for the readers to find what their looking for.
Hip-Hop contents page
I chose this contents page from the 'The Source' magazine which is a hip-hop magazine, firstly when i came across this contents page i thought it was very sexual as the woman on the contents page is exposed in her bikini. The photo on the contents page is a medium shot showing most of the womans body, this is done to attract and appeal to the males audience although it could also be to draw in the female audience as they might want to have a body like the woman on the contents page. The contents page is in black and white this gives a vintage and sophisticated feel to the image, the woman is placed in the middle of the page so she is central topic and this image could be used to make the woman an object of desire. The brightest colour on the contents page is the bright red, this makes the contents page stand out and makes the readers want to read what the writing inbetween red. The rest of the writing is the font colour white this alos stands out because of the background of the contents page is black.
I have made up my own Indie magazine, this indie magazine cover includes a photo of an indie boy i have used this picture as it is a stereotypical view of indie people. The boy in the picture is wearing skinny jeans in contrast to the formal blazer this shows a confusion in his identity as he has mixed up his clothing as the skinny jeans are are often seen as casual and feminine wear and the blazer is normally found on people higher up the hierarchy such as accountants people who have a serious and important occupation. I chose to name the magazine 'Independant' as indie people like to be their own person and do not follow the crowd so in addition the title 'independent' fits in perfectly with the magazine. The cover has a plain white background this was done to attract both males and females as white its'nt a stereotypical colour for a specific gender. Overall the target audience would be both males and females with a a wide age range. I have used three different coloured fonts red, black and yellow these colours were used as they stand out on the white background. This magazine would be appealing to different audiences as it includes fashion tips, music and interviews something for everyone.

Vibe Contents Page analysis- R&B
I have chosen a contents page fron Vibe magazine, Vibe magazine consists of the latest music, music reviews, interviews and fashion. The contents page is sexual as the main image is of a male singer with his bare chest on show this draws in more female attention to the magazine. The man in the picture has a number of jewellery and gold teeth this shows he is a successful artist and is wealthy. This contents page only includes one image and is placed in the centre of the page this puts the readers focus on the image as its the centre of attention. The image is a medium/ close up shot you are able to see the man making eye contact with the readers this may be done to create a link or a connection with the readers. The Title is split in three lines this is due to the title being in big font and capital letters this makes an impact as it is eye catching due to it being unusal and different, white font is used for the title and for the writing on the left in contrast to the red background which is very strong , powerful and vibrant and the white is peacful, light and calm. The image on the contents page is a stereotypical veiw of Hip- Hop artist as they upfront with their success and wealth and this is show through the jewellery. The tatoos on his body give the readers an impression of him being hard, strong and intimidating. On the left side of the contents page it includes what the magazine features such as the latest music, new artists and a section focusing on fashion so it goes outside the subject of music and goes into something different this attracts audience who are not necessairly into music.
Reader profile
The results from my questionnaire show that Hip-Hop music is very popular with teenagers aged 16-24 at the moment, they listen to music from two main sources which are TV and the internet this is how the mojority of my readers get their music information from. From the questionnaire i found the main thing which intersted my readers was the interviews with the current Hip-Hop artists and music reviews. A number of readers all agreed that the reason why they brought music magazine's was beause they were intresting, entertaining and informative all at the same time. I also established that my readers rarley ever attened live concerts which show they don't interact with others very much and this also shows that maybe they can not afford it.
It also shows that incentives are very popular with my readers as it's one of the the mainreasons why they buy a certain magazine as they also gain something in return. So this has got me thinking of including an incentive with my magazine as this goes down well the readers. Many readers said they were not currently buying a music magazine as they are too expensive, many correspondents answered that they are willing to pay £1-2 on music magazines as this is the maximum budget for magazine's as most correspondents are still in college and don't have jobs. So this will mean i will have to price my magazine at a reasonable price so they can afford it.
